★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Driving from New Plymouth to Mangorei track parking its only took ~ 15min. I would advice to come early as the parking space will be full. But if its full, do park on the curbside on the parking and some do park curbside of the road too. Before start your track, there is toilet at the start on the track.
We start hikes from 9am and arrived the tarn around 11.45am. there is boardwalk almost 95% of the trail so dont worry about dirtying your shoes. Its quite cool and windy while we are at the car park but once you entered the forest area, its becoming humid.
The route is up, up, up, flat and upppppp again ?. Most of it its going up. But the best thing about this is when you are going down. It will drain your energy while going up. Going down its only took us 2 and 1/2 hours.
We didnt have the chance to take the picture of the mountain reflection as its was covered with clouds when we arrived tarn area. We did check the weather, its supposed to be clear but who are you to predict mother nature.
Locals use the route for jogging and tramping up and down the trail. I would suggest doing this if you got the chance, if not then climb the mountain itself ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Took about 2 and half hours to walk up, mostly stairs. It's hard to walk with heavy backpack. It was very windy and couldn't get the reflection but got the clear view of the mountain. Check the weather before go. View is absolutely breathtaking.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well, it's a complex experience. Lovely native bush and amazing view from the top of the mountains. However, the track is very weird. A narrow track with big gaps between each bar, occasionally catching my toes while walking. I don't think this would be very friendly to young children or elderlies. At least these age groups need to be careful to prevent from getting their ankles hurt. Also the fence-like track made me feeling dizzy when I had to focus on my walking.
It's a sacred place for local Maori people so it was not very nice to see some random visitors leaving their rubbish behind.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Trekked up to the tarn and back via the Mangorei track which is timber decked all the way. Challenging but manageable for me at 70+ .. hardest part is the steps going down! Well worth the views ..this is a unique area. The big car park was full. Great to see so many families up there. Busy day... about 30 at the tarn while we were there. 2 hrs up to Pouakai hut. Round trip took about 6 hours. Recommend

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely charming! I checked the weather the day before to make sure it wasn’t cloudy. On the way there, it turned out like super cloudy and I couldn’t see the Mt Taranaki at all. Luckily, after waiting for an hour at the tarns, there was a ‘super strong’ wind blowed the clouds away so I could see the peak of the mountain!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Second time here, its a great 4-5 hs walk return, if you are lucky it won't be cloudy by the time you arrive to the reflective pond, you may have to do it more than once to get a great picture but regardless of that it's a beautiful view and walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On their website this track is rated " advanced", so you would expect lots and lots of stairs. Duration of walking up to the hut is about 2 hours for young people, and another 15 to 20 minutes to the Tarn. Endless visitors in daytime. To take a perfect reflection photo you will need a day with no wind, cause the pool is very small and shallow, even a light breeze will break the reflection. But view there is epic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice walk there are a lot of steps. The entire walk in now covered with wooden slats so you don't even really need hiking boots or poles. It is not a massively steep incline and goes from gradual to a steep incline then back to gradual. I personally found it worse walking back down than up.
The best views are had on a clear day when there is still snow on the mountain (often late July to early January)
