We are proud to be one of the first restaurant in Wellington that serve traditional Vietnamese food.  At Saigon Van, we take on everything you would love about South Vietnamese Cuisine; seasonal ingredients, thoughtfully prepared with flair and respect, but simplified to nourish and comfort. Even though our menu is designed to share and to enjoy with family and friends, our restaurant is also suitable for an intimate date night with romantic candles, dim light and music.

Traditional Vietnamese restaurant but had ran out of Bahn Mi. Also had run out of cocktails, tap beer and even a Coke. Forgot half our order, all the tables were dirty when we arrived for our booking so we had to wait and people were rude. Would not recommend. Especially after reading their rude replies to peoples feedback on here.

Overpriced restaurant with average service and pretty bad food (presentation, taste and portion). Will definitely not come back. This the second time we came here and we thought we'd have a better experience this time. But, no, this place is consistently bad.

After seeing the reviews I had high hope so hubby and I went for dinner for date night and unfortunately we did not have a good experience. I should add the restaurant was full so we were expecting a wait but we waited far too long(1h.45m)for the smallest entree ever! we ordered crispy chicken and I thought it was a joke when we saw what we had on our plate. It was purple cabbage scattered on a plate with what I counted 11 tiny little pieces of chicken(smaller then a pop chicken from kfc) on it and that is it. For a $12 entree that looked like the little bits of scraps left in the deep fryer after being used and put that on our plate. They were so hard and chewing it was terrible. By the time we got our main we were starving, my husbands meal was really tasty and he enjoyed that but my ribs were not. I’m not a big eater but I got one little pork rib that was completely dry and they poured some sauce on it with a few leaves on the side with carrot. To add to our bad experience I saw the waiter deliver food to the table next to us, 20mins may have passed and the man at the table called the waiter over and said they did not order the kebabs to which she picked the food up off their table walked it straight to us and said oh here is your kebabs, sorry for that.I politely told her we do not want food that has been sitting on some strangers table for the pass 20mins and if we could take it off the bill, which she did after saying β€œoh they didn’t touch it” ?. All in all if you want to get full I wouldn’t say this is the place to go. I can appreciate with covid staffing can be an issue but our experience here was not good, sorry. The male worker did give us a 10% discount on our meal and apologised which was appreciated. However we left that restaurant and went straight to Taco Bell because we were still hungry.

We booked a table for 7pm. We were put upstairs by ourselves with a view of the bathrooms. I then think they forgot about us. We ordered both starters and mains, and when 40 minutes later we still hadn't received anything we asked when our starters would arrive. Everything arrived together, tasteless, my crispy pancake was burnt and soggy. The food was well below average. Wouldn't recommend.

Their sauces for entrees, soft crab dish and other are just simply tamarind sauce we were a bit disappointed by that. A little pricey for the portions. Only recommend for big group of people(5+) to share. Food wasn’t amazing it was kinda average. Waiter insulted us indirectly but I won’t give 1 star because of the chefs. They worked hard to make the food for us.

The service was very laid back and the waiter was not polite. The whole environment in the restaurant looks cheap. The Traditional Beef Noodle Soup was very oily, there was too much beef fat and msg in there. Drank the soup just like drinking oil. It is pricey for a little bowl of noodle soup. Do not recommend this place! "Now, this is the message to reply to the Saigon Van Grill Bar regarding to their response below (the above is my original review) - I had "Traditional Beef Noodle Soup" NOT "Spicy Noodle Soup" (of course I know what I ordered, because I cannot eat spicy food) the most oily Vietnamese noodle soup I had, and the waiter/owner did not ask my table about how was the food. Instead his service was rude and unfriendly. By reading your response I wish I can give you guys a zero star - lying the real situations and misleading potential viewers!"

An enjoyable and whimsical visit on a VERY busy Wellington Friday night. We were downtown during β€˜Wellington On A Plate” and having trouble finding a table. Saigon was able to sit us straight away, and they filled up shortly after. The wait staff were pleasant, but were quite busy juggling upstairs and downstairs diners, so they forgot about our water and we had to wave them down to place our order. We also ordered spring rolls that never turned up. The food was nice, well presented with authentic tastes. The ribs weren’t incredible, but they weren’t bad. A bit firm, a bit thinner than I’m used to and a bit gristly round the sides. Overall, a pleasant evening. Thanks for a good night out.
