★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely the best fish and chip shop in Upper Hutt. The staff are friendly and polite. You can choose between homemade/hand cut chips (50 cents more per scoop) or the usual supermarket frozen style chips. I buy from here nearly every week. I usually buy from here on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night instead of Friday as they get REALLY busy on Fridays and the wait then can be 30 minutes or more. The battered fish is really nice or you can get crumbed fish if you prefer. Between a fire and the covid lockdowns they were closed for a very long time but are open now in 2022 and it is good to see they are busier than ever. The shop is freshly painted and and is immaculate.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Scoops fish & chips shop is very good, but Upper Hutt does have huge competition in the Fish & Chip market with a number of outstanding fast food outlets fish and chip shops. Some of Wellingtons best fish and chip shops are in the Upper Valley ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went out of my way to test if the reputation of Scoops as the best fish and chip shop in Upper Hutt was warranted. Unfortunately I found the food to be of "average" quality. The fish wasn't very fresh and the batter wasn't crispy. I can do better closer to home, so won't be going to Scoops again.
