Seashore Cabaret - Petone
About Seashore Cabaret
Across the harbour and overlooking the city is Seashore Cabaret, a café housed in the Petone Rowing Club and that most definitely takes out the title for best view of the city. The café’s name comes from the space’s history – it once was a dance hall.
Much like its Maranui sibling, Seashore Cabaret is a cacophony of colour and sound and energy. The café is decked out with colourful tiled walls, vintage-style signage, industrial style lighting and booths that have been painted to look like rugged seaside bach walls. But best of all, the space is packed out with old school pinball machines. As if the harbour and city views weren’t enough…The café space also plays host to coffee roaster Good Fortune Coffee Co. Ltd, and unsurprisingly it’s that coffee that’s on offer. The on-site roasting adds to the constant hum of activity that there is at this Cabaret.
On the food front, there’s a solid breakfast menu that caters well to vegetarians and vegans, an impressive line up of fresh cabinet food (the salads are superb) and come lunch time there’s a choice between a line up of classic old school hot dogs or lighter options such as burgers, butties and quesadillas. The café opens late into the evening on Fridays and Saturdays and has firmly cemented itself as the favourite spot for beers and shared plates this side of the city. There’s also a lineup of homemade sodas and ice cream sundae treats.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a quirky and different Cafe!! Really cool spot, right on the beach. Really cool decor, lovely staff and great coffee. Had a short stop there to top up my caffeine dose as I was heading to the late interislander. Next time I'm going back for lunch. ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our experience here was good. We came here at a very busy time so our order took a little while. We ordered the Trucker’s Breakfast and it was delicious so that made up for the waiting time as well as the view. It’s amazing. Will come back again ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really nice atmosphere/decor, pinball machines and fun things for children, and a lovely scent of fresh ground coffee in the air. Garlic prawns are delicious, pesto toast was great with some of the best halloumi I’ve ever tasted, salty and balanced, and a wide selection of drinks. Although, the wait can be a little long and some of the food can be sub-par.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Third time here now, this time a nice relaxing brunch, inside but overlooking the sea. The staff as always, friendly and helpful.
I had cabinet food: cheese and onion scone came warmed with butter, fluffy and flavourful and brownie was chocolate-y, rich and fudge-y. Very good, will definitely want to come back again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love this place , great venue, service and food! Went there for Sunday brunch, and dived into the Big Day Burger.
Not for the fainted hearted or in my case, the hungover. Burger was an all round winner, double patty, cheese, beetroot and egg was a great combo, topped off with curly fries.
TIP: in the weekend it’s busy, but the queue does move relatively quickly. To avoid the queue, get in early.
Thanks team will be back

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had brunch here recently. Went before the lunch rush (and glad we did because there was a really long line as we walked out) but it was still pretty busy. Nice views, a good selection on the menu and some great ambience inside make this a great place to eat. Staff are busy but had time to provide quality service. Would definitely return if I'm in the area.
