About Solera

We are a wine bar located in downtown Mount Maunganui focusing exclusively on the small New Zealand wine producers. We thoroughly enjoy all the popular grape varietals, our true love however is showcasing the lesser-known varietals and blends.

Our chefs work tirelessly to create and design an innovative sharing menu that is best described as modern hearth cooking, with a focus on local ingredients.

Solera is a Spanish term used to describe the way sherry houses age their sherries.

The system ensures that year after year, regardless of the strength or weakness of any given vintage the sherry that is bottled is consistently of the high quality that the sherry houses are after. Our approach to hospitality encompasses so much of the same morals with a goal “To consistently provide an incredible, complete dining experience for all our guests”. For this reason, we feel that the name Solera is extremely fitting for our Wine Bar.

Great service. Very good wine list, although quite pricey. All dishes well thought out and prepared to a high standard. Felt the wagu steak a bit tough for our liking.

Amazing meal, could’ve fault it. Been in the industry 20+ years and reminded me of my days in Melbourne, flavours blew me away, the egg/duck starter and the fig! The fish & half duck main, wow, 5 star! Excellent value for $, have the chefs selection at $70 p/p, so much food, highly recommended. Thanks team

Wandering along Mt Maunganui road & discovered ,for us, a new restaurant. Very charming young man came outside to explain food was wood smoked on site, could share platters, very Melbourne like eating style. We were hooked.Nice size restaurant, long so not sitting to near to others.Smoke not at all overpowering. Great food,we only shared the delicious cauliflower dish, we were all enjoying what we chose, so didn't want to share.

My husband and I went to Solera last night for dinner and we loved everything. The food was incredible, delicious and visually appealing. We actually sat at the bar and it was great to interact with the chefs, watch the process and enjoy the evening. Fantastic wine choice and the wait staff were attentive and informative. Will definately be back. ?

Great ambiance and dining experience! Will definitely come back and try other food on their menu. Sharing plates at a reasonable prices. Offers wine by the glass that usually sells by bottle at other places. Sat at the Chef’s Pass and had a show!

Our first time at Solera for a birthday celebration, certainly won't be our last. Great drinks menu, AMAZING food and an awe inspiring brigade. The food is innovative and interesting but most importantly delicious. Highly recommend sitting at the chef's pass.

We started the evening showing up two hours late because I’d made the booking ages ago and as it turns out, can’t read. The host was exceptionally kind and gracious β€œnever mind, you’re here now” and he was just spectacular the whole night. The food is phenomenal, a very very confident chef utilising very bold flavours - there was not a single dish that wasn’t beyond delicious. Even though I live in Auckland, I’ll readily drive to Tauranga and back in a night just to eat here again.
