St Benedict's School - Khandallah

St Benedict’s School is a State Integrated Catholic School, established in 1952 in the suburb of Khandallah by the Brigidine Sisters. We are a Parish School attached to the St Francis of Assisi, Ōhāriu Parish. The St Benedict’s Church and St Francis of Assisi, Ōhāriu Parish Priest is part of our school community.

We cater for boys and girls from Year 1 to Year 8 and currently have a roll of just over 260 students. We have a progressive and high-achieving Intermediate Syndicate, a busy, enthusiastic and flourishing Middle Syndicate and a caring, well-established and energetic Junior Syndicate.

Our school has 13 classrooms, a large multi-purpose well-resourced library, two special withdrawal learning areas, along with a Reading Recovery Unit, a modern Administration Block and welcoming bathrooms for our students and staff. Our classrooms are bright, functional and welcoming.

There is a variety of IT equipment in every classroom with a range of iPads, Chromebooks, cameras and robotics equipment, all of which connect to our  wireless network.

Our playground makes full use of every centimetre of available space. Along with a large court and a top astro turf field where many tamariki enjoy friendships and games, we also have: a junior playground, a gardening area, a skink farm area, a reflective corner, a hillside of walking areas and slides, and a new  Senior Adventure Playground opened in 2022.

On top of an active PE programme, our sports programme for the students is often conducted at Nairnville Recreation Centre and Park, a short walking distance from the school.

All tamariki participate in our Swimming Programme, which is conducted at either Keith Spry Pool, Johnsonville or Easy Swim in Khandallah during one one of the winter terms.

Throughout the year, our tamariki participate in a range of academic, arts-based, musical and sporting competitions across local and Wellington-based schools; we delight in providing our tamariki the opportunity to excel during these occasions.
