About Stanley Avenue Wine Bar & Bistro
Matthew Aitchison - Manager
Local resident Matt, has had a long career in the restaurant industry. He is a trained sommelier and has a keen interest in all aspects of hospitality; particularly hand selecting wines to complement talented chefs' menus.
Matt has worked in smart dining all around the world, and has run some of Auckland’s most impressive restaurants – including The French Café, Masu and Cassia.
Matt is highly regarded, receiving recognition in multiple hospitality industry awards.
Kathryn Aitchison - Assistant Manager
Kathryn (Matt's sister) has previously managed several ventures on the North Shore, including The Engine Room, The Commons, Little and Friday, and more recently Stanley’s Café.
Robertta Young – Head Chef
Originally from Alberta Canada, Robertta has worked in the industry for 15 years. After a short stint in Australia she took on the sous-chef position at Shepherd restaurant in Wellington, leading it to 2 Hats and Casual Restaurant of the Year.
More recently, she's been working at Culprit in Auckland's CBD where she continued her philosophy of sustainability and creativity while using the best local ingredients.
Robertta enjoys collaborations with other chefs and winemakers, so look out for special events in 2022.
Bruce and Lesley Baillie - Owners
North Shore locals, Lesley and Bruce are convinced that the neighbourhood wine bar and bistro concept is something that will be embraced and loved by the local community as a place to gather and socialise.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a girls lunch to celebrate Christmas today. All I can say is WOW! What a hidden gem StanleyAve Bar restaurant is. The food, the service and the decor all 100%. Four of us ordered the fresh fish on pea risotto, it was fresh and it was full of flavour cooked to perfection. The side of Parmesan fries where a hit to. Thank you for being on the Shore. I’m just about to book again .

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definitely worth a visit. We received a nice welcome from Anna and Catherine. It was blustery last evening and we hadn't made a reservation but they were so accommodating. I ordered the beef which was very tender and my friend enjoyed her chicken dish. We shared a generous side dish of kumara and goats cheese. Dessert was limonocello and also banana meringue with rum sauce (a little too sweet...no problem, they would let the chef know). Stanley Ave has an incredible wine selection. They have tried to reduce noise with acoustic paneling.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had lunch here last week and it was a wonderful experience. Eating out with young kids can be less than enjoyable but the staff at Stanley’s made us feel very welcome. Our waitress, Erana, was an absolute delight and the food was excellent and an incredible bargain to boot. A definite 5 star experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was recommended this establishment from foodie friends of mine, who proved yet again that they know what they're talking about! Matt, one of the owners, was on the floor all of the time, assisting diners to have the best evening, clearly confident that his team out 'back' knew what they were doing also.
Every part of the evening was fantastic, and the meal was so good, we all had to share each others food to some extent because we wanted to try it all! I had the small plate ribs with a couple of seasonal vege sides - each was a true delight. The service was excellent too.
Thank you to the entire team who made our evening so lovely.

We dined on a Saturday night and have been blown away by their amazing menu, attention to detail, great wine list, gorgeous fit out, lovely, genuine service- not to mention their awesome food! Every dish was fab, I can’t mention anything we didn’t enjoy and we tried a LOT! The menu has something for everyone and try something you wouldn’t normally! Definitely choose this place for your next dining out occasion!
