★ ★ ★ ★ ★ About 10 years ago I started watching the International Space Station as it came into our New Zealand sky. Amazingly on the first occasion it crossed directly through our Southern Cross. When I heard about a dark sky experience in our district I took the opportunity as I wanted to learn about what I had been looking at for 74 years.
Just one night with Sam and Hari on top of their Ponatahi Hill has led me down a path of discovery, which, like the universe, is never ending. I have learned about our unique and rare goldilocks planet, the effects of gravity and tides, the big bang, galaxies, nebulae and early civilisations.
Thank you Sam and Hari, you have created an extraordinary place of learning.
Hari once said ‘we are all made of stardust’ and I know what she means.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic location within the Wairarapa International Dark Sky Reserve, less than 90 minutes drive from the capital. Hosts are both extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. The viewing area has good access for those with mobility issues. Good accommodation and dining options in nearby Carterton (15 minute drive). Makes for a great weekend getaway.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We visited Star Safari in July 2021. It was a wet night, so we did threir wet weather tour. Very impressive. Hari and Sam'a passion for the night sky is contagious. They work so well together and compliment each other.
Loved the mini exhibition of Mars and the posters were very intetesting. Would love to come back, but how to guarantee a clear night? Sigh ?.
We also participated in their lickdown Friday sessions. Best thing that ever happened in lockdown!!! Thank you H and S.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Friendly and very knowledgeable hosts. Everyone got a fair turn observing through the telescopes. Learned heaps and would happily recommend the experience to others. Take a warm jacket and beanie. Check that you don't book for a night when there's a full moon as it's too bright to see the stars well.

It was just the best evening where we saw our amazing universe through powerful telescopes and gained so much information about the magic sky above us. I recommend the experience to everyone I meet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely recommend doing Star Safari. Me and three of my friends drove down from Welly for this and the entire experience was magical. We've always wondered about the night sky and we were glad to learn so much new stuff about the night sky through the amazing hosts at Star Safari. Small number of people(7-9) in our session meant we could interact with the hosts and ask questions. It was money well-spent for us!!!
