Our berry farm was quite a different place when we started out in 1999. Britney Spears topped the charts, we didn’t have the internet in Tauwhare and Facebook was still 7 years away.

Since then, we’ve been continuously investing and improving our farm to grow the very best tasting berries in a sustainable way.

For us, we felt it’s the right time to look back at our history and think about how far we’ve come. We also thought about how our customers see us and how we can better position our berry farm for the future.

Love the place. Kids have so much fun with strawberry. Friendly staff and yummy ice cream. Lovely bamboo playground for kids to chill. Abit of driving from Auckland, but worth the drive.

Used to love Tauwhare Berry Farm; however, it’s now required, as of early Feb 2022, to have a vaccine pass to buy an ice cream or smoothie. Funny thing is, you don’t need a vaccine pass to walk in and buy fresh fruit. Same building, same line, same cash register. Fear, or coercion, as a basis for business is never a good thing. It saddens me that businesses that don’t need to do this, are. I understand that they are probably being pressured by a minority of fearful customers to institute this, as heaven forbid someone should be able to buy their children ice cream in the summer. As an opinion piece in Stuff recently noted, the fear and general meanness of Kiwis and level of fear in New Zealand, has only increased. I would hope that the owners of the Tauwhare Berry Farms see this review, look at the inane discrimination this new requirement has created, and consider at least going back to allowing those without a vaccine pass to buy ice cream, even if they are not allowed to eat it in outdoors on the farms property. Anything else, is really just being mean.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with the kids, beautiful hot summers day. The staff are very friendly and helpful, got there at the right time, as got very busy after we arrived. Pick you own strawberries and raspberries, or you can just buy from the shop. $5 per person and you pay a kilo rate, but you can eat fruit as you’re going around. Probably cheaper to just buy the fruit, but good for something to go with the kids occasionally. There’s a shop where you can buy the fruit as well as other vegetables, blueberries etc. A lot cheaper buying from here then the supermarket and hugely better quality then the supermarket. There is also handmade ice cream and coffee.

Friendly staff, clean, can pick strawberries while standing....don't need bending, which is convenient for elderly people. Great day out for picnic, also has a playground for children.

I like their ice cream. I like their fruit. But I hate their agreement to apartheid. Tauwhare Berry Farms on tauwhare rd , Matangi, now require the jab pass to order an ice cream and get take away. They won’t allow you to order from outside, you must order from inside the storefront. BUT you do not need to show a jab pass to buy berries and take them away- it’s the same checkout, the same store. One is retail which does not require jab pass, and one is...well I don’t know. I’m ordering ice cream to takeaway and if I did the same for a coffee that would be fine, but no...not ice cream for a 4 yr old or a 6 yr old or a 76 yr old!!!! This makes no sense whatsoever. They just changed their sign today- it was jab pass required to sit upon their seating (WHICH IS OUTSIDE!!! Distanced!!!) which is insane) but today they changed the sign again. They obviously do know the law that retail does not require a jab pass, so why the double Dutch about not selling ice cream to go?! It’s ridiculous and it needs to stop. No jab pass required for any β€œto go” orders (takeaway) and let’s face it, for outside seating as well! Stop being ridiculous and afraid of your own shadows!

PYO berries nice and fresh. Tastes? and the ice cream ? is always superb. An excellent place to take a break with family on your way down south. Best time to visit is during December and that's when you get to pick your own berries and it does taste much much better when you have it then and there. I do normally stop here everytime I drive that way. I recommend this place for tourists and families. Can't wait to go again?

Cheaper fresh berry ice cream than other nearby farms. Friendly service. Love that the tables are under grape vines.
