★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well maintained hut with a nice porch, tables, tent sites, and out house. Has a new wood stove and is stocked with firewood by the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust. Great place to spend the night. Don't forget your hut tickets!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A well-maintained hut with an excellent chip heater for warmth in the winter. The walk to it is relatively short and offers good views from the hill above. A good getaway for a day walk or overnight sortie.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful hike, the hut can be approached from multiple start points. Best is from Hot Springs Rd (past Fernland Spa).
The walk is challenging but doable for anyone of moderate fitness.
It’s just over 9km from Hot Springs Rd to the hut. The hut has untreated drinking water, compost toilet, wood burner and wood, no power. 12 sleeping berths. Cost is $5 per adult, honesty box.
As of Jan 2021, the eastern loop track between the road and the hut is closed due to Kauri dieback remediation.
From the hut there are other tracks to explore.
