★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Posting on behalf of my folks down in Dunedin. The black dog kitchen has become a treat that we all look forward at our house hold. Their blue cod is to die for and is abosolute perfection, golden and crunchy on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside, absolutely delish! Highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of my go to places for a coffee/toastie or a muffin. Servings are always large. Food is good. Kitchen is closed after 2:30 until dinner though - understandable but unlucky if the baking cabinet is empty (4 stars for this reason).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had heard some good things about the Black Dog so went there for dinner with 2 friends last night. Ordered drinks (and they weren't anything sophisticated) and 20 minutes later wondering where they were inquired at the counter...to be told that "the manager hadn't entered them into the computer" (whatever that means)....another 10 minutes on they still hadn't arrived and no advice as to when they would be. Thinking "if they take this long to get our drinks how long will we be waiting for dinner"? We decided to leave and go to Speights Ale House.
The contrast couldn't have been bigger, attentive service as soon as we arrived, staff couldn't have been more helpful. Drinks arrived in minutes. We had a 3 course dinner (food was awesome), which arrived in an appropriate time and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. We spent over $150 and my friend from Wellington was so impressed he left a good sized tip. So that's what you missed out on Black Dog. I certainly would never go back there until there was a substantial improvement., and I mean substantial! You will be disappointed if you go there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dined out with a group for a birthday dinner, looked forward to it, but was very disappointed with the delivery of the meals ( some didn’t arrive for a good 20 mins after others) my chicken filo was dry, and there clearly wasn’t enough staff on as there was no clearing up of tables….. also told there was no baked potatoes left only to see the table behind us had them 20 mins after ours…. we had chips instead. Overall disappointing for what used to be an old fave ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I feel like you need to specify what you serve in each dish on yr menu board. For eg, I bought a bacon eggs bene. I've always received eggs bene on some sort of bread, but instead my eggs were placed on some sort of fried pumpkin topper. It was not my ideal bacon eggs bene. A pancake stacker was also ordered. Sweet pancakes but not worth its value. Very disappointed. Best thing on the table was a side of fries & the mocha.
