β β β β β A mouldy towel covering an old leak in the hallway of the building was a water feature down the hallway from our room. No bathroom exhaust on shower so fogged up mirror badly. Air conditioning in room was a fan or a heater. One of the legs on the heater was broken

β β β β β The room was very poor condition and looked nothing like the photos. We booked a balcony room and it wasn't as advertised. The other room we booked was not vacuumed and can tin lid on floor and TV not secured above door. Exposed wiring and extract fan that you could look thru to outside. We stayed at distinction hotel following night for se price and was 10x better

β β β β β The shower had black mold around the bottom, there were cobwebs in there aswell. There was so much dust under neath the bed it was disgusting. There was mold on the wall paper by the window. The skirting boards needed to be cleaned. There was a constant noise of running water in the bathroom aswell. Even the stairs going up to the rooms needed to be cleaned and vacuumed. You were given 5 little pots of milk but had to ask for them. Extremely disappointed wouldnt recommend and definitely won't be staying there again

β β β β β We booked for a large group of motorbike people, and from the moment we went to check-in what a nightmare, first was the over powering smell of curry, then to be told that the bar and restaurant where closed and we had not been told of this at the time of booking.
We then had major problems with the guy at the counter has he could not figure out the bookings.
The room was so bad the bed bases where showing and ripped, I was to scared to look at the mattress, the bathroom was filthy, and we froze in the night due to a thread bear blanket that was the only one on offer, the chairs on the balcony where all broken, the light combo over the bed was broken and exposed wires hanging out, I didn't even consider to turn it on and get electrocuted, none of the carpets in the hotel looked like they had been vacuumed in a century. I have stayed here before approx. 20years ago and this hotel was beautiful, but now she is old tired and so sad to see unloved. A lost era of a GRAND Hotel.

β β β β β Booked online directly with hotel, room we got was not what we booked - told they have no control over non-direct bookings. Same room as friends were given at same time, but $30 dearer. When this was pointed out, we were told that the price depends on the day you book, not the date you book for - so beware of that! No breakfasts available - not told of this until breakfast time, admittedly due to Covid, but could have been advised of this the night before. Room needed maintenance work, but was clean enough. Was also told the manager would ring us the next day following our concerns, but never did. All we received was an email saying we hadn't paid our bill - which we did at the time of check-in. More Fawlty Towers than Grand Hotel.

β β β β β A piece of NZ hotel/pub history with the pub(Irish) on the ground floor with rooms on floors above at a reasonable price, walkable to everywhere, lovely service from the guys on reception and bar. The hotel/rooms haven't been modernized which for me was the best part, grand staircase, spacious room, very comfy beds...

β β β β β Booked this place as it advertised a bar and restaurant with it. Upon arrival we were told they were actually closed, this unfortunately was not the only disappointment of our stay. The service from staff was not friendly. There was a strong musty smell throughout and the sheets on our bed had red stains all over them. (We have photographs of this for reference). This place is in desperate need of a deep clean and a bit of TLC. I would recommend to anyone planning on staying here, to go anywhere else.
