Mount Herbert is the largest mountain on Banks Peninsula with a height of 919 metre above sea level. On this track, there is a slightly smaller mountain, coined Little Mount Herbert at 913 metres. From this summit, there are stunning views of Lyttleton Harbour, where you can also overlook it the city of Christchurch, Lake Ellesmere and the Canterbury Plains. On a clear day, you can view the Kaikoura Peninsula from the top of the summit. The track is closed for lambing season from 1 August to end October. It is a scenic walk over farm land, where sheep wander the paddocks.
