★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic part of Christchurch that even the locals don't visit. I'm enjoying the walks around the port hills and the views are spectacular from this area. Views of the Gondola, Lytellton Port, the estuary and the Sumner, lytellton Harbour and more depending on how far you walk.
Gun emplacements were a surprise on this walk cause I thought they were only at Godley head. Recommend this walk. And it's a easy walk too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great views of Lyttleton town and then out of the heads to the east. You can also walk in the shade of the pine trees on hot days. Will be extra lovely when all the natives planted by port company grow. Would be fantastic to see it fenced and turn predator free

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tauhinu-Korokio is an endemic native tree to Aotearoa New Zealand, Ozothamnus leptophyllus, also called tauhinu koromiko, and in English known as cottonwood. It has greyish-green, small leaves with fine white hair underneath and curled edges. Flowers are cream and in clusters and occur throughout summer. Found throughout both main islands from coastal to lower montane shrubland and grassland, it occurs from near the start of the Scenic Reserve track on Brenchley Road at Lyttleton.
This is one of the earliest settled farms in the district, and the lower stretches of the track are bordered by incredible rock walls with spaces for gates where they would have run the sheep and other lifestock. Fascinating, and the majority of this reserve was formerly known as Brenchley Farm. Today, a small lifestyle block bears it's name next door.
The Brenchleys were an English family, of whom Susannah came out to Lyttleton in 1851 with her husband, who named the farm after her maiden name, and hence the road.
It is incredibly scenic but very under-developed, so it would be good to have some more foot traffic and better parking in this historic area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a must for tourists and locals as well. If you get a clear day you can just about see both ends of Canterbury (nearly). Highly recommended to walk the trail and get a different perspective as you progress the track.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice bit of remnant native bush within the Lyttelton harbour basin and some impressive cliffs on this walk. DOC sign suggests it's closed due to rockfall hazard.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome tracks around here with varying landscapes and awe fond views over the port. When you get to the top you can see over to the peninsula on the left. Look out for the rock climbers! Some paths are less maintained so consider wearing long pants.
