★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Such a beautiful wee establishment proven to be very popular and was extremely busy at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. We expected quite a lengthy wait and with having a 6 year old in tow, we're pleasantly surprised to have only waited approx 20 MINUTES, unfortunately that was the best part ? our meal was overcooked and very greasy (obviously wasn't left to drain long enough) and our battered oysters were rubbery and chewy. Just another average feed of fish and chips.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best fish and chips! We had the blue cod, chips and squid rings. All were fantastic. Sat next door at Rimu wine bar to eat the fish and chips and enjoy a wine tree :) Greag systems at the Smokehouse and you can easily see the wait time, so, you know when to come back from exploring the lovely views and shops nearby

The fish and chips were wonderful, but when I reported to a staff member that we had seen a sparrow hopping around in one of their frying baskets, I was shocked to be told ‘oh well - it’s gone now’. I asked if she didn’t consider that it might have been a health issue, but she just shrugged her shoulders. I told one of the other staff members and got the same response. The basket stayed where it was. I am seriously unimpressed

The Gurnard was incredible however, worth paying extra for, even though it was half the size of the more common snapper.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice interior and looks like great hygiene inside. Service was also reasonably fast.
However the food was very average, fish and chips were nothing special. There are no burgers available which is utterly bizarre for a takeaway in NZ. I also bought some vegetarian options. $5.50 for a patty with the consistency of a hockey puck and the size of one mouthful is an absolute robbery.
Food needs a big improvement.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best fish and chips in New Zealand. Choose the Ribaldo Deepsea Cod. OMG it's done to perfection here. 2nd time in three days. Had to bring some family member to try it. They also agree. Well done steakhouse team. Awesome.
