Welcome to The Strand; our comfortable and conveniently situated motel/apartment style accommodation. Situated north of the city and just a short walk to New Plymouth's lovely popular coastal walkway and both East End and Fitzroy swimming and surf beaches are only a few short blocks away.
You will also find nearby the skate park, inline hockey/skating rinks, children's playground and enjoy a great coffee or an icecream from nearby cafes
The walkway extension goes beyond Bell Block, creating over 10kms to wander along the seafront, great for walking or cycling on the shared board walk.
We are a local family owned and operated run motel with ground floor studios and one bedroom units in the original block and the new addition in 2021 to the motel complex has been the long awaited project of 8 x one bedroom apartments.
This newly opened in February 2021, the two storey addition has 4 x one bedroom apartments downstairs (each with outdoor seating and a private courtyard) and 4 x one bedroom apartments upstairs (with juliet balconies.) The planning and building process was definately a labour of love....
If you are wanting modern, stylish, comfortable and well appointed accommodation these are a must try. The apartments have double gib for a peaceful and quiet stay. Each apartment has a super king bed at the back of the apartment and two king single beds in the lounge. The kitchens have been personally designed and built by the owner from Bamboo wood to create a modern yet warm feel. The kitchens have a full sized fridge/freezer, dishwasher and stove top if you are wishing to cook and stay in and relax. The bathrooms are modern and fresh with heated towel ladders, tiled and glass showers and warm wooden vanity tops.
The original part of the motel complex accommodation (all ground level) offers 4 x one-bedroom units (4 people maximum) 3 x Superior Queen Studio units (2 people maximum) and 1 x Cosy Saver Studio that sleeps a maximum of 2 people.
From June to December 2021 all of the one-bedroom units and Superior Queen Studios have been fully renovated offering more modern and stylish accommodation. Brand new bathrooms with glass and tiled showers and floors, new kitchens, vinyl, carpet, blinds/curtains and a complete interior paint job have completed these spacious units. There are new lounge and dining chairs also.
The one bedroom units are very spacious and have their own private and secure courtyard with outdoor furniture. The Superior Queen Studios also have outdoor areas with seating. Please not the smaller Cosy Saver Studio has no outdoor area, but is perfect for sleeping one person for more than one night.
NEW double glazing and joinery was installed into all of the units back in July 2013 which has add to a more comfortable and relaxing stay for all guests. Every unit also has a quiet and efficient AC/heat pump and SKY tv.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ So comfortable and clean. Its great to have room to move and some private outdoor space to enjoy. Staff are exeptional. The location is good. Traffic noise was kept to a minimum due to double glazing and high fence.
The place has a stylish modern home feel with plenty of room. The addition of tvs in each room was an added bonus. Gave us some well needed down time.
My only complaint was the location of the stove and lack of oven. It was messy trying to cook in one little corner but all it would need would be the shelf to be relocated to the otherside of the fridge.
The laundry facilities are fantastic. We stayed and many places over our 17 day travels and to be allowed to borrow pegs, a clothes basket and airer may not seem like much to some but it was fantastic yo not have to put our clothes in the drier.
This place was by far one of the bests places we stayed in. Its well run and exceptional. Thats why we extended our stay twice.
Its the perfect family hotel

As for the owner's they are both lovely helpful respectful couple you could ever have to own a motel So every one I hope you enjoy your stay at the Strand as much as we have

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We just came home from a 4 night stay at this accommodation. The rooms have been renovated to a high standard, and were very clean.
The location was fantastic, so close to the beach and local shops.
Unfortunately the daily service lady made errors in both the rooms we were staying in. My boys and I had one room and my folks had another. She did things such as leaving other people's dirty tea towel in one of our rooms. Not a big deal.... However when we approached the owners about it, giving them our feedback, they threw it totally out of proportion. We got told our feedback was very petty, and we were expecting too much.
Very very unprofessional of the owners. All they needed to say was that they were sorry we were unhappy with the service lady, and that they would ensure it wouldnt happen again.
Sadly due to the owners over reaction to our feedback, as paying customers, we wouldn't stay again.
Since placing this review the owner has been harassing us. He has rung me 3 times and has sent me a very nasty text.
My Mother was never abusive, nor was she unreasonable when she spoke to the female owner. And as you say "the people in the room next to us heard our conversation" it would have been because you (Paul) stood on our doortstep and had a big argument with us.
You have NEVER once apologised to us over this situation.
Due to your arrogance and mistreatment, you totally ruined our stay over New Year.
As hotel owners you both seriously need to take things more professionally. People pay for a service and when that isn't provided you need to simply apologise and do better, not cause a huge argument and then make up a whole lot of lies!!!
We will not be recommending your accommodation to others! Cheers

POSTSCRIPT: Was rather upset to receive a phone call from the owner because he didn't like my review! Really! In hospitality you need to learn from ALL the reviews your guests post and maybe learn from them. I noticed several others put up about the lack of 'hospitality' ie no sight at all of the owners/managers and I'd certainly agree - very disappointing not to see anyone...
