★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food was good but disappointed that the starters and mains for both my partner and I came out all at once. Two mains eventually became cold as we had our starters. For a $150 bill, it would have been nice to take our time, enjoy the atmosphere, conversation and appreciate our meals but had to rush to get to our mains before they got cold! Food itself tasted nice albeit slightly lukewarm/cold.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good customer service and nice food! Small menu but nice food! Small menu also means they can cook it faster and fresher. High turnover make it fresher food. I will recommend it to all my friends and relatives! I will be back again!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great dining location. Beautiful food, with an excellent selection of local wines, beer and cider. Cocktails were also fantastic. Staff friendly attentive and helpful. Building had character, plenty of parking nearby and wonderful atmosphere. By far my favourite place to eat in Gisborne. We will be back when visiting next.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We enjoyed attentive service, a delightful atmosphere in a beautiful historic building on the cool veranda after a hot summer day. I had the very best marinated fish I ever tasted here, and all other dishes were super tasty as well.
We returned for lunch the following day and can only confirm that The Works is consistently excellent, day and night. Great cocktails, too.
