M	M N Scott on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Highlight of the crossing and the start of the long downward climb. Beautiful on any day but best without wind or low cloud. Don’t swim in the lakes and don’t trip over the crowds in peak season.

L	Lisa M on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very strenuous 19.4km (12mile) hike. On the guide it says it'll take you 6.5 hours, but it is an underestimation IMO. My husband and I are in our 30's and we are pretty active. It took us about 7.5 hours. Bring layers of clothing as the temperature can vary from 40-70F.
S	Spaghetti O on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are plenty of warning signs about being in good shape to make the ascent but I felt that the warnings should really have been about the descent. If you have poor knees you will need hiking poles and will need to take it easy on the first 100m of descent. The ground is extremely unstable. On the other hand, if you're fit, have great knees and zero fear, it's quite fun to build up momentum sliding down the first descent. Take a minimum of 3 litres of water. We completed the hike in just under 6.5 hours. Start early, it gets hot when you are out of the wind.
C	Cecilia Rius on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible hike! 20km or about 12 miles! There are parts of the hike that are fairly easy but there are also pretty difficult areas as well. Very nice hike make sure to bring lots of water!
X	Xavier León on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing volcano. The crossing is really spectacular. It has amazing views, you must bring your camera to capture it. At the beginning the crossing has steep paths but they are not to long. Once you reach the top it all goes down from there. At the top you can clearly see the lakes which have amazing blue-green colors.
R	Robo Cop on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic day. Such a beautiful part of New Zealand. Well maintained tracks. Make sure you have good footwear, take at least 2 litres of water, food, warm clothing and toilet paper. Definitely recommend.

Start as early as possible as most showers start after noon. We finished in 6 hours flat and stopped along the way yet we are experienced hikers. For inexperienced give 7 hours plus.if you're going to New Zealand you must do this one in a lifetime hike.
