★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We visited Hanmer Springs 3 weeks ago and as usual we visited Up The Garden Path where we have bought several items over the years. On this occasion the elderly woman running the shop made us feel very uncomfortable. She followed us round and wherever we went she assiduously checked that we had not stolen anything. When we cut our visit short and left the shop she even followed us right to the door. As long as she is working there I will not be back

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My mum and I visited this shop whilst on holiday in Hanmer and we were on a mission to spend some money and get our retail therapy kick for the day. There was a younger woman working that day and she would follow us around the shop pretending to organise a shelf, wherever we went she was there. She made us feel like thieves. We left without buying anything!! It was so uncomfortable in there and would not go back obviously under who ever manages it now.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Last weekend my partner and I spent the weekend in Hanmer. We had a look around this shop and found a couple of things we loved but couldn't bring ourselves to buy just yet. The following weekend we decided we couldn't stop thinking about them and that we would make a special trip back to Hanmer from Christchurch just to purchase them. We went up on Sunday 20 March and was greeted by a not so pleasant lady (I can see from the reviews that this is a common theme). We mentioned to her the 2 things we wanted to buy to which she said she would go and grab the boxed up ones from out the back. When she came back, the colour of one of the things we wanted to purchase was wrong and when we mentioned the one we actually wanted she rolled her eyes and said she will serve the others first. We waited for about 10/15 minutes while she served others and we continued listening to her attitude. If we hadn't had made a special trip to Hanmer just to purchase these items then we would have just walked out.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was with a group of 4 ladies visiting this shop on 10-3-2022 and had the worst experience I’ve ever had from any person in retail ,or from anyone at all. Firstly , when I asked politely if the assistant would mind measuring the circumference of a round cane coffee table, she made it obvious she wasn’t at all happy to do so. She then proceeded to measure with a ruler well to the side of centre, I asked if she’d mind measuring across the centre, and at that point she threw the ruler down and told me to do it myself. I was shocked at her behaviour as whenever we go to Hanmer this shop is a favourite, On this occasion after Covid confinements we were ready for retail. We promptly left , and recommend the owner follow this up ,as the person involved is detrimental to your business
