★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A pleasant and fairly easy-going walk. Plenty of wooden boardwalks along with a few wooden bridges. Features a boardwalk around a large Kauri at the end, along with a short detour to see a 'Siamese Kauri' off the main path. Plenty of interesting forestation to make the short walk an entertaining one.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very cool place to check out with the Siamese Kauri trees swing back 1,500 years! Had a hurt knee but still managed the short work to and from the trees.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Refreshed we left and headed North, then West again across the Coromondel, heading now to the Coromondel township, for some more dirt road fun. This time we stopped at the Waiau Kauri grove where there was yet more pathways and platforms for us to traverse, and trees to be seen. Was persuaded to take a few pictures of some mosses. Am hoping some will look like forests photographed from above.
We continued down the road, ignoring the water falls, we had seen enough and there are some good falls coming up in the days to come. Slowed up to see the pigs and piglets which were kept in a domestic/farm fashion, but allowed to wander at will across the road. We’ve seen a few signs warning of wandering stock, one even included a phone number to report the escapee.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was an amazing stop along route 309. The kauri grove is thousands of years old, and the majestic trees standing the test of time. These grand trees are almost extinct due to their high demand as construction timber during New Zealand's Colonial years. And now we have to protect them, good job docs, a lovely example of something we should a little better.
