Probably better to visit in spring as water would be fresher and falls more full. Quite a drive out there...have you vomit bag ready for those whom get car sick. I was happily surprised to find flushable toilets, hand basins, toilet paper and soap. I was amazed to find a camera monitored compost bin and lots of sheltered tables to eat at.

Beautiful waterfall. 10 min short steep walk with stairs and railing on the track which I think was recently upgraded for safety reasons. Although off the main road but nice hidden gem.

What a magical place. These falls are absolutely beautiful!! The facilities are also great with nice clean toilets, proper gravel steps and handrails leading down to the falls. Can't wait for our next visit!!

Beautiful place for a refreshing swim! The drive to the falls was worth it. The walk to the falls isnt too far from the parking spot. And there is a lookout that gives you a view of the gorgeous falls. There is a bathroom on-site. Would go there again!

Pretty waterfall but don't with your dogs, ad they are not allowed, despite the sites forgetting to mention that small fact. Site mentions have BBQ facilities - there isn't a BBQ, but there is a table under a shelter for a picnic. Swim spots are deep, so not advised for younger children. Over 100 steps on the track down to the bottom of the falls Tararua District Pamphlet says Waihi Falls is on Oporae Rd - ummm no!!. Go along Oporae Rd and then continue to travel along Waihi Vly Rd, until you see Waihi Falls Rd, with the Waihi Falls sign. Continue along the gravel rd, cross over a small wooden car bridge and follow to the end. It is about a 45min drive from Dannevirke.

Spectacular waterfall, well worth the journey, especially on a rainy day. The carpark is close to the falls. There are toilets adjacent. Make sure you pop in to the Pongaroa Hotel for lunch but check their meal times.

It would be nice to see more water. But it's was a nice walk. Many steps to decent so it's not wheelchair friendly.
