Warning! Very aggressive locals: Watch out for this clown "Dave Walters" he can be found shouting and swearing at tourists or trying to "fine" them at random. He has no authority to do so and should be avoided. His behaviour is perhaps induced by his use of methamphetamines.

The "Visitors Centre and Cafe" was rundown and terrible, a joke. Nothing but only a handful of the one type of sponsored brochure left sitting there. No activity brochures or maps on the area, region, or New Zealand. The "cafe" consisted of a cold drinks fridge and two odd baked slices that looked like they'd been sitting there for over a year. The coffee machine was not on. Two staff sitting around chatting were doing nothing but collecting the campground fees. Not worth a detour all the way down the road unless you are staying at the campground. There is no information or coffee to be found here.

Great place to stay as you enter the beautiful Waipoua forest, bathrooms, showers, kitchen amenities and plenty of room! The grounds coordinator Lance is a good man, with a passion for the forest and a wealth of knowledge! Accompanied by new a addition to the team, Julia who has much to offer, a freindly yogi hosting a few exciting experiences including a barefoot night walk into the forest where you can really learn alot about our native trees and birds, hesr/spot Kiwi and connect with the environment, mother earth and yourself! You can get coffee and a quick snack from Marvin at the visitors centre cafe, and Do-it-all Jannick is doing his bit, keeping the place I good nic! I highly recommend this as a place to stay if your on the Northwest coast!

Horrible communication untidy. Made a booking 2 weeks prior got there and the coordinatir Lanze who i spoke to said no book was made and made out that we were lying .but whatever ok gave us two rooms then tried to charge more for the rooms. Went into the rooms provided to a distgusting site gave the keys back instantly and left. Nice beautiful area but no business professionalism and poor communication and a lack of competence makes this site a terrible place to stay be warned

Because of the kauri dieback some tracks are closed. So get prepared and may be ok if just go for camping site.

Only a short visit. Very badly managed and maintained campground. Cabin had rat droppings in cupboards and found dead bird under bed. Very grubby inside and out. Somewhat aggressive locals towards visitors. One very bad gravel road into campground. No cell phone coverage and no wifi. Could not wait to get away from the place. Found a much cleaner, friendlier and cheaper campground only 20 minutes down the road and with the bonus of cell phone coverage and free WiFi.

The road in is quite an adventure! The campground is a bit small compared to others but it wasn't very busy even on Easter weekend. Lots of cute spots for tents and campers in the bush. Beautiful short track to a river nearby and a short drive to the major tracks in the area. Running water bathrooms and showers, cute cafe and visitors center on the way in.
