Really nice track with a phantastic view inbetween and a lovely beach at the end (of course you have to walk all the way back). Some meters of height and you have to mind your steps, but worth it!

Beautiful trail for an afternoon hike. There wasn’t a single other soul to be seen on the entire walk, there and back. From what I found online this track was supposedly dog friendly, though the signs posted on arrival- told a different story.

Nice track, well formed and maintained. Expect to sweat however as it's a big hill! The downhill into the bay is steep and just as steep going back out but...the bay is picturesque and the walk around to the old whaling station is pretty cool. There are signs describing the history. However the buildings are all gone and the pohutukawa have taken over. There still rusty boilers and concrete vats left to admire. We enjoyed the walk. About 1 hr in and 45 min back. Note on parking...all around the area you are solicited to park in private areas at a charge, for security...Though no one's windows were smashed out on the road we went ahead and paid the private parking. Kinda felt like a scam but... $3 for protection? Maybe a fair price...

A nice short walk (75 min one way) leading over a ridge to a gorgeos sand beach where if lucky you will be alone. The walk can prolonged (15 min) to the old whaling station or lookout (40 min).

A gentle climb through newish bush to a steep descent into one of the best bays in NZ. (Avoid in the busy season Xmas - Jan when it fills with drunken Auckland boaties). The whaling station is a mute reminder of how we pillage Tangaroa. Hot work on a warm day.

We went after a lot of rain with 3 kids (2-6) and my sister who’s 8 months pregnant. While a typically quality NZ Doc track, easy to follow and toilets at the start. The track was quite slippery in places and reasonably steep toward the top after about 4km where we turned around. This was all the adventure we could handle today and having to return this way as doing a out and back. Probably better tracks around for a crew like this, especially given the weather.

Amazing track. Not too long or too hard. Beautiful beach at the end of it. If you go at low tide you can walk round to the whale station, you can't make it round at high tide.

Soo beautiful!!! It is a good track, not too difficult but not too easy. There's plenty of shade on it and the view of that beach as soon as you arrive is breathtaking.
