My partner and I went to 50-50 for the 9 course dégustation. Our anticipation was high as we had meant to go a few weeks earlier but unfortunately the staff had COVID and so our booking was postponed. The experience was definitely worth the wait. We thoroughly enjoyed every course and entire experience of dining at 50-50 - We have done degustations at many restaurants in NZ and abroad and 50-50 is one of our favourites so far. At the end we were not left feeling hungry but weren’t uncomfortably full either - meaning the amount of food was just right. We can’t wait to make it in to dine at 50-50 again when we can. TIP: If you’re not too full at the end of the meal I highly recommend the Lavender and Coconut Hot Chocolate.

This is the third time we have visited and I think February's menu was perhaps my favourite, which is not to say the others haven't been excellent. It's just that I can't decide which of the 9 courses was the best, as they all were. Well done. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine matches - cleverly picked - and were very impressed that you even had a non-alcoholic match too. This was very well received by our designated driver and each match was so very well thought out - a lot of work went into that. It's such a good idea. Another brilliant evening with knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff and it was lovely to be welcomed back - what attention to detail! As usual, cant wait for the next time. Thanks to all on Saturday night.

Not really know what’s going on this place. Heard lots of good comments from friends.Good reviews from several magazines. However that was a huge disappointment. If it classified as a fine dining restaurant, I would expect better on everything. They only supply one red damp towel for whole service instead of napkin or serviette. I don’t think it is hygiene enough. There was only one type of wine glass for matched wine and it is a heavy glass that means the glass is cheap. Only one front house to run 8 tables at same time even chef did help a bit but that was still too much. Have a proper 9 courses dinner I would like to have more introductions from the food and the place or the background of chefs.I would say to have an experience not just a rush service. It is a shame to have a decent wine match menu but only the whites were newly opened and the reds were a bit stale. The place was busy but as the standard I expect the food serving speed should be balanced. The waiting time between the courses were huge different. If the food was the only reason for me to visit, I would say it was a bit boring. I was attracted by a couple of interesting items from the menu. For example, yuzu jam mixed with perfectly cooked sushi rice. Creamed caper and raisin purée with the cauliflower soup. Other than that you don’t get the punch flavors from the small portion food.

Helen has the most innovative approach when designing her menus, her incredible ability to combine diverse and interesting ingredients to create phenomenal flavours and textures makes her food exceptional. In the 4 years since I’ve been going to 50-50 I’ve rarely had the same dish twice and I’m consistently surprised and delighted with the range and creativeness of the courses on offer, each dish is beautifully presented with flair and attention to detail. Helen’s commitment to using, fresh, local, foraged and healthful ingredients and her generosity in accomodating dietary restrictions has made 50-50 my most favourite restaurant in New Zealand. Having had the privilege to enjoy degustation meals at top restaurants around the world for over 20 years, I feel qualified to say that 50-50 is not only outstanding value for money, but it’s also a world class dining experience which I highly recommend at my own peril (as it’s already impossible to make a booking at short notice). Many thanks Helen for your outstanding commitment to providing such an awesome dining institution in Kapiti. Amelia Trotter

The best dining experience I have ever had! We enjoyed the 9 course option with matched beverages and each dish was like a piece of artwork when it arrived at the table and the flavours had my mouth drop open with wow. Highly recommend to make a special occasion memorable

Went there for our son's 21st birthday. Absolutely delicious meal served in humble surroundings. Will be making this our annual treat. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

We dined with friends and had a 6 course meal with wine matching. Each course was superb and the wine with that was matched with was a great compliment to the food. Each dish was more amazing than the last. The front of house person was amazing and kept everyone fully informed with what each course was but also was attentive when asked for something extra. Great value for money. Would highly recommend. It is so amazing to be able to say we have such a wonderful restaurant here in Paraparaumu.

True fine dining in a modest restaurant on an equally modest street. The exterior tells you NOTHING about the standard of cuisine you will enjoy inside. EASILY the same standard as any fine dining in Auckland or indeed elsewhere, but without the price, formality, and pomp.
