About Art of Combat
Art of Combat, formerly known as J’s Gym, began in 2006 within a small school hall. The constantly expanding Academy now commands its own facility and purpose designed equipment, plus accommodates a range of classes, from strength and conditioning, personal training, to Dutch style Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Over the last fourteen years the Academy has had the pleasure to train multiple NZ and Oceania champions as well as observe participants grow and gain individual character strengths that are subsequently applied outside the gym.
Participating in a sport such as martial arts, provides not only a physical outlet and helps to improve peer respect, but also develops characteristics such as self-discipline, focus and confidence. The requirement to step out of personal comfort zones into a boxing ring fosters maturity and independence of thought. The Art of Combat expectations of both reliability, and enthusiasm, towards the task at hand, encourage a tenacious attitude. These are necessary fundamentals for any community leader.
The Martial Arts Academy provides a safe, clean and energetic environment which welcomes individuals of all ages interested in alternative forms of physical exercise.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thanks Marty for taking our group of 55 - 75 year olds at short notice. We had a great time. Learning the basics of boxing. It was so good, some of the older guys are keen to take it up as a way of keeping fit when the get back home to the Waikato.
It's a shame we don't live in Palmerston North as I am sure you would see some of our group take up boxing for fitness.

Marty is a great coach, awesome pad holder, asked heaps of questions and taught me some new stuff in the short time I was there. Thanks guys, I will definitely come back on my next visit!
