★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Artists Retreat is full of character and a beautiful place to stay. The setting is idyllic, the view over Kaikoura and the Pacific Ocean is superb and there is a sense of peace and serenity. If you wish you can keep to yourselves as the retreat is private and there is no pressure to interact. You will miss out, though, as Leanne and Richard are excellent, generous hosts. Our son loved feeding and petting the animals. We enjoyed ourselves so much we would like to come back and stay a bit longer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Artists Retreat is a really great place to stay. It has rustic charm, amazing views, lots of happy animals and the people that run it are generous and fun hosts. The house was very well supplied with basic foods, board games, cooking utensils, and boasts fast wifi. It has many beautiful artworks, created by their guests on the walls. An authentic, country house for families or couples. If you want a real experience of living in New Zealand, this is the place! The sunsets and sunrises were amazing.
