A must do in Dunedin, you can go at the top with your car but there's not a lot of place to park

Quite a fun experience walking up, with amazing views. Wasn't as steep as my head was expecting, although my legs may now disagree. :-) The gift shop/cafe wasn't open when we were there, about 11.30am on a Sunday. But we were able to purchase certificates detailing our achievement from a small house, also selling pottery, on Baldwin Street itself. You'll need cash though, there is no service for card payments. If you haven't done this yet it's worth giving it a go, to say you've made to the top of the worlds steepest street and back again of course. :-)

Certainly lives up to its reputation! Great "must do" when in Dunedin Loved the fact you could get a certificate from shop at the bottom of the hill (take a picture of yourself at the top!)

It was about a 5 minute walk to the top there is a painting at the top and a water fountain and a seat as well it was definitely steep I have a photo which will be below I have quite a few videos as well it is well worth the drive to go the street and climb it if you haven't done it already.

Must see in dunedin. Its amazing how a simple road can become a tourist attraction. I don't know how or why they built this road but its just an easy place to tick from your list. Its on the way to dunedin. Would be good idea to visit in the morning, then you would have the street just for you without any traffic.

Quirky is characterized by something peculiar, unexpected trait or aspect. This 350-metre stretch of road in Dunedin, New Zealand is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's steepest street. Its official maximum gradient is 19 degrees (though there are little bits that are 21 degrees) with the ground rising a metre for every 2.86 metres you cover horizontally. A double entendre is always used in a funny way, and is not meant to hurt or offend anyone. Usually risque that lends itself to more than one interpretation. The people living at Baldwin street must be very fit and healthy which reminds me of a popular Olivia Newton-John song Β - Physical. "I'm saying all the things that I know you'll like Making good conversation. I gotta handle you just right you know what I mean. I took you to an intimate restaurant Then to a suggestive movie. There's nothing left to talk about less it's horizontally. Let's get physical physical - I wanna get physical let's get into physical Let me hear your body talk your body talk Let me hear your body talk. Let's get physical"

Not a nice place. Just a very steep concrete road to which tourists are lured to the annoyance of local residents. If you want to do a bit of sport, you can race up the 350m long road as fast as you can. However, when you get to the top, you have a good view. When descending, you can easily check whether the knee joints are still in order.

It’s basically a steep street. Your mileage may vary depending on whether you’re there to walk it or drive up the road. We took a walk up and it was rather easy with the stairs. It’s still a work out but you’ll get a better appreciation for the street as a whole. Along the way, you’ll see cars driving up the street, dropping people off to take photos and move off after. We saw some cars struggle to make it up the slope and as it was raining prior, their tires skidded when they were near the top. It was an interesting sight to see. At the top, there’s a fountain and a bench to rest while the street gives a nice view of the town from here. Would recommend for a quick cardio climb for fun.
