Amazing experience. A knowledgeable crew detailing the beautiful scenery around Akaroa. We saw both dolphins and whales on our trip and never felt rushed to keep moving. This is a MUST!!!

t was an excellent time travelling to Quail Island on the Black Cat ferry. The staff were lovely and the cruise was quick and smooth. Plenty of room to move around and see the sites of the inlet/bay/harbour. Whatever you call it. :-)

Such an amazing time around 20 dolphins come to play. They said was the best swim in a long time spent the whole time in the water so much fun

Closest we have ever got to dolphins! Sometimes I felt they are less than a meter from me, and I felt I can practically touch them, although we shouldn't. It was indeed a WOW moment in our lives. I struggled a bit with goggles and visibility at first, a little tip, goggles don't help, you can't really see anything underwater, and they fog up pretty quick, any action you see will be above water, and it will be far better to enjoy them with naked eyes. But even above the water level, the visibility also wasn't what I expected, because the eyesight was super low and close to water level, so there was a lot of reflections of water, we were also constantly moving with waves, which makes it difficult to spot anything, therefore we had to rely on staff members on board the boat to spot the dolphins for us. Bottom line, it wasn't easy to spot the dolphins, it also involves a lot of waiting, which sometimes can be a little long and boring, but when they do come near you, it was a nice and exciting surprise. Other than that, it was all good, the water wasn't too cold with the wetsuit on, staff were friendly and helpful, the hot shower afterwards was a fantastic touch.

Such an awesome experience. The crew were lovely and the dolphins were magnificent. Such a special moment for us. I love that they are wild and we do not track them or touch them. You go out and look for them then if they stay and play you can get in the water. Definitely the most ethical way to interact with dolphins:)

Absolutely amazing experience. Lily and her team were so helpful and friendly! We didn't spot the dolphins for a good hour and a half but finally had some luck, got suited up and jumped in. Was so amazing...they came so close and we got to see them up close and personal. Once in a lifetime experience.

I did the dolphin swimming a few months back with my girlfriend. It was a really magical experience, the dolphins came close enough to touch (not that we did as their skin is very sensitive!). I really respected the crew's knowledge and especially how they make sure we are never disturbing mothers and their calves. It was expensive but fully worth it once you're out there. Plus, they have really good shower and changing facilities.

A glorious sunny autumn day for a cruise on the harbour. Saw white faced penguins, juvenile NZ fur seals, several Hector's dophins (with calf) and a couple of Dusky dolphins leaping out of the water. Awesome two hour trip. Wish it was longer. Definitely a must do for anyone visiting Akaroa.
