Easily accessible for young children for an overnight adventure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cute 6 bunk hut in the tararuas. Can be done as a round trip - approx 3-4 hours from middle dam up to the hut, and down to upper dam via the stream (impassable after heavy rain). 4kms between the two road ends (walkable in 1 hour). Road in to the dams is gravel and fairly gnarly. No heating in hut but room for a few tents outside. Could easily squeeze 10-12 people into hut if needed

The toilet is best used with the door open. So you can enjoy the spectacular views on your throne.
The hut has no heating so plan accordingly. The track to the hut is overgrown and you WILL believe that you’ve lost the way, but just keep going. On a clear day, this is a fairy tale walk. Trust me, it’s beautiful!!!
