We walked here (30mins) from Oamaru but there is some parking. Path to beach is closed but path along the top provides good views of the beach leading to an observation deck and hut. I think you're unlikely to see penguins, especially at this time of year, but we did see several sea lions both in the sea and on the beach.

Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve is a easy walk and if you are lucky, you may be able to spot some seals and penguins coming home

Very beautiful place, if you wait till like 6pm then the penguins will arrive home after all day out in sea fishing. So you have to be quick, they are big but quite difficult to see from a distance. Rare penguin though and beautiful!

What a nice short evening walk. We were hoping to see some penguins come home still, but we were too late. We did see a few seals coming out and a few just chilling on the beach. The trail is well kept and easily accessible. The gate to the beach is closed after 3pm and dogs are not allowed for obvious reasons. Maybe next time I'll take some binoculars for better spotting.

Beautiful quiet beach! Steep to get to but beautiful. No dogs allowed as its a scenic reserve with penguin nests. Spotted seals on the beach too and lots of paua shells.

If you want to see penguins, be quiet, take binoculars. And take warm clothes. In summer, the venting I went I saw no penguins after 20:00, ask locals about the right time to go, because I didn’t and didn’t see penguins. The beach access closes early afternoon. This is the world’s most endangered penguin.

Beautiful nature. Amazing scenery. Lots of seals when we visited, unfortunately it was not the best time to see penguins. A short walk to get to the beach was lovely.

Easy walk to beach and the lookout. Even if there were no seals the sea views are lovely. We were lucky as there were a couple of seals resting on the pathway to the beach. After a quick look from the distance we left them at peace.
