About Cash Converters

The Cash Converters Story

Cash Converters began as a single store in 1984, in Perth, Western Australia.

Brian Cumins and a group of partners founded the brand with a simple idea - professionally purchase second-hand goods from the public and display them in a modern, genuine retail outlet.

Fast forward to the present and that idea has grown into an international franchise system that is constantly innovating, while expanding its product offerings to include small loan lending, pawnbroking and a whole lot more.

Today there are more than 700 stores worldwide, operating in more than 16 countries including Australia, Belgium, France, Italy, Malaysia, Namibia, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and USA.

Cash Converters in New Zealand

Cash Converters began in New Zealand in 1993 and today operate 22 stores, employing more than 380 people. There are 11 corporate owned and operated stores in Auckland and Christchurch, and 11 franchise operated stores throughout the rest of the country.

We're here to help

A growing number of New Zealanders are significantly or completely excluded from obtaining credit from traditional banks. With household budgets that are already stretched, an unexpected expense - like a medical bill, vet bill, car repairs or a school trip for the children - can often leave people with nowhere to turn.

Cash Converters New Zealand has been meeting this need for over 25 years and we continue to help thousands of Kiwis every week.

We also understand what our customers need and because we have their best interests in mind, for more than 12 years we have contributed to consumer credit reform, including the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act (CCCFA) and the associated Responsible Lending Code.

Dreadful little Australian company. The electrical goods work for about an hour then die. Virtually impossible to get a refund. Your better off with trade me or ebay.

Easy to spend a lot of time here, big variety, helpful staff. It's my opinion the prices do seem a bit steep for second hand goods but it's very accessible and well set out

Managed to find some pretty good gems in here (guitar hero guitars, adapters) all for a pretty damn good price compared to the internet. Well worth taking a look at some of the stuff available here. I even managed to get them to hold an item for me until I could come back at a more convenient time. Friendly staff and very helpful.

Some good items available, staff need to learn the difference between "store policy" and the terms of the loan contract- they caused issues but finally they lived up to the contract that THEY wrote...

Staff were friendly at first but then got worse throughout the time i was here. handed in around 1K worth of camera equipment and got offered $200, saying it was the highest they'd go due to how old it is. went home and listed it on trade me and doubled their offer within a few hours thanks to a bid. just sell online and not to them. its not worth your time.
