β β β β β The beach itself is 5 stars. Even packed on a hot summer day it's spectacular. The cliffs, the pohutakawa, the big open cave, a rock to jump off at high tide and a sparkling warm ocean. However, the walk to the beach is not for the unfit... it's well sealed and safe but the hills and heat made it a struggle on a 30 degree afternoon.

β β β β β The walk from the beach car park @ Hahei takes 45 mins, or you can take the water taxi ($20 pp each way) for a 10 min ride to Cathedral Cove. Great time to do the walk before the overseas tourists return! The walk is not for those who can't handle a few steps..

β β β β β If youβre planning to walk up the hill haha take the shuttle $7 return to the car park that you canβt park in.
Very nice easy walk 149 steps at the end.
Gorgeous swimming we took the track back down to the Hahei beach on the way back was lovely. To take track up just walk to northern end of Hahei beach and go up the steps easy.

β β β β β Beautiful place, on everyones must do list. Stiff walk in and out especially if you don't take the shuttle bus to the top carpark in high season, not for the unfit/obese. Take plenty of water and food.

β β β β β To be honest. during the day time is this place just a beach with a hole in the rock. It doesn't look even good. Just a common beach which is often overcrowded.
The magic of this place will appear around the sunset or sunrise. That's really wonderful, calm, and stunning place, where you can see the pure beauty of it self. Try it and you will see.

β β β β β Nice 30min walk to get there but in the end it was every step. Amazing rock formations, perfectly sandy beach. Loads of fun. Stayed all day. Loved it.

β β β β β Reasonable walk to get there up and down hills. 1 hour ish each way from the beach. We thought that was quite a good option. We parked by the beach and walked from there, went for a swim when we came back! Would do again, but try to avoid busy days like weekends as itβs a very small space ! Much smaller than we thought it would be. We were lucky we were able to enjoy it with less people, go during the week and in the morning.

β β β β β I would rate the cove 5 stars however be warned that the hike to and from the cove is quite challenging due to stairs and the constant incline of the track. It can tire you out fast. If you however are more fitter than me, you could enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean better and with more glee
