Great Idea - Poorly Executed. Make sure to read EVERYTHING before booking a car. This is one of those times to read the terms and conditions and the full rates and fees. We tried this service because we found it online boasting about a $16 per hour hire for a van. I thought this was too good to be true but figured they must be able to cover costs. They do, with other charges that they tack on at the end of the month. Your booking charge is cheap and the next bil you get is at least 3 times as expensive We werent told about these charges, and on the mobile site when we booked it wasn't clear there either. When we signed up it looked like we were getting 150 Kms free. But this apparently only happens with a full day hire. The system does calculate your costs and charges you the lowest price that you can pay, unfortunately this is much higher than what they display. It feels very misleading and leaves a bad taste. The cars are really clean too and well maintained, it is a shame.

Tried to book a van urgently under my partner's account but my driving license was not verified by city hop. On their website it states that you can call in for an urgent verification. Called them at 7pm, was told that it’s outside of hours and that we can call back at 8am and it will be a 10 minutes process. Called at 8am an operator picked up and said that it’s outside of hours and we should call back at 10am. Called at 10am, no one picked up and it went to the answering machine, called again after 5 minutes and still got the same result. Eventually, the same operator that we spoke to at 8am called us back and said we can’t drive the van until we receive the verification email which she did not know how long would take to come through. I tried to explain the process that we went through and mentioned the urgent verification via phone that we saw on the website, also asked why we were not told this from the beginning.The operator kept repeating the same sentence and when I asked why she keeps repeating herself she answered β€œ because you don’t seem to be listening” and when I asked who I can make a complaint to, she gave me her own email address. She did not help us to cancel the booking when we asked, saying β€œthe option is online”. We had to take time off from work for today and there was no level of customer service or sympathy. Not an ethical company, strongly recommend to seek other options before using their services.

We ended up locked out of the car after it self locked! Upon calling the assist line all I got was a voicemail. Cityhop never responded to the messages. When I raised this with an email later they said "we have no record of your call", I sent them my call log and I've never heard anything back. Really disappointed at the lack of follow-up. ?AA Roadside Assist who helped us ?Cityhop who dropped the ball on this.

Great idea, love the option to hire a car for a few hours and still be able to extend. Login to the app is super easy and quick. I had a little issue to unlock the car which was solved through the customer services within a couple minutes. Definitely recommend.

We lived in Auckland for two years and never owned a car, despite every possible human being advising us against this. Cityhop was the best thing we could have asked for. We used it for big groceries and day- & weekend trips using their available promotions. We never had any problems with either their cars or customer service. Can absolutely recommend.

I booked a van for house shifting. There was no fuel card inside the van and called the customer service, she told to buy the fuel and can reimburse it. I did the same. When I submitted for reimbursement, customer care reponded it's reimbursed and later got to know that they credited in my Cityhop account. I asked to credit in my bank account. I clarified that I rented van for one time shifting purpose and do not use Cityhop membership anymore. She responded it's not possible to credit in my bank account. It's frustrating and their responses are very slow and I am still fighting for my fuel money. Now I also got to know that your membership fee automatically deducts every month from the already saved credit card details with them. I don't understand why they put me in membership stuff when I am using it for one time purpose. Please be careful. My experience with them is bad and frustrating.

Such a great idea. Loved the whole process from signing up and getting our van. It saved us having to get a trailer. Also was affordable and easy to get to a van. Loved the idea of unlocking with a card and the keys were secure with the van which was great for me as I loose keys ALL the time. We loved being able to book it online and extending the time was easy. Would totally recommend. Huge thanks CityHop.

City hop cars are an amazingly convenient concept. Our car was stolen so we needed to get around and we decided to give this a go since we see a car near our place. The rates are good and the cars are kept in a well maintained condition. Would highly recommend it and it’s very secure especially when you need to get around urgently and run errands unlike an uber you have the convenience of being able to get around your own pace. I had an issue with unlocking the car but a quick call to their support team and it was resolved immediately.
