β β β β β Would have given 3.5 stars but there's no such option. Went to Daphne's for dim sum for the first time (instead of the usual one we go to). While we were disappointed that there won't be any baked dim sum on offer (as there was only 1 chef), we still went ahead to try their food. (There won't be any baked dim sum for quite some time until the new chef comes)
? The prawn dumplings, sesame balls, fried eggplant stuffed with pork and fried beef rice noodles were really good. ? My daughter who hates eggplant really loved the one here.
? Century egg and pork congee was not too salty but the pork doesn't taste good and there's hardly any pork and century eggs in them.
βΉοΈ The other dishes we ordered were not tasty. There were many flies flying above the big empty table next to us. Even though the restaurant was air conditioned.
? The male waiter who served us our dim sum was really nice and observant. He offered to get us a fork and a knife so that we can cut up the food for our young kids.
We'll go back again when they start serving baked dim sum, but we'll probably avoid those dishes that were not tasty. Hopefully by then there won't be any flies.

β β β β β I liked the food. Not all hit a home run but 3/4 the dishes did. The sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu, and beef fried hor fun were good. The one thing that I really didn't like was the wait. Of 4 tables filled, with no more than 4 pax each table, we had to wait half an hour for our dishes to be served. I really wonder how they cope with a restaurant full of customers.

β β β β β Daphne's has been our regular Chinese restaurant for quite some time. Always good food and excellent service especially from Daphne herself. My favourite dish would be the grilled fish, egg plant and the salt pepper prawns.

β β β β β Lunch today was incredible!! So fresh and so good! Staff are so friendly and efficient. Highly recommend! Never had a bad experience and we always go when we are in Christchurch.

β β β β β This place is practically an institution, and despite its popularity with non-Chinese customers, it actually serves very authentic dishes from a range of regional cuisines. You can't go wrong with Daphne's if you want good quality Chinese food in Christchurch.

β β β β β The best Chinese restaurant in Christchurch and beyond, in my opinion β I end up using Daphne's as a reference point whenever I go to Chinese restaurants elsewhere. Taste and portion sizes are great for decent prices, and staff have always been friendly every time we've dined here over the years. Looking forward to going back!
