★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A lovely spot right on the beach. Facilities are basic. Water restrictions were in place. A bit more upkeep would be nice as garden boxes looked scruffy and unkempt.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great time, staff were great. Awesome beach for swimming, surf casting and pipi collecting! Hot & cold showers are $1 for 4mins which was surprisingly long enough, but there is a hose across from the showers for a quick wash down. Flushing toilets were a bonus and are kept clean. Enjoyed ourselves very much, will definitely be back next summer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Trees for shade (on one side of the campsite) A short walk to the shop to get some ice ect. Close to Whakatane. Flush toilets and a hot shower ($1 for 4min) 1min walk to get to the beach. Cheap.
No real cons for a DOC campsite. Nice a quiet during the night.
There is no ATM in Matata. Bring $1 coins for the shower.
