★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice staff and boat, but indeed very expensive for a 5min boat ride to the other side of the lake. We had no other choice so we paid the 50$ return but it’s clearly too much to ask, especially when the boat seems to be full most of the time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Only rating on the water taxi to Brod Bay: Staff is nice and everything was on time, however the water taxi to Brod Bay is extremely overpriced (50$ return). The ride takes apx. 7 minutes. Without intense research it seems like a Monopol is leveraged.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked onine for a scheduled service across the lake and could not have been happier.
The driver turned up on time, checked the names, and off we went.
Dropped at the beach right opposite Te Anau, we then spent 90 minutes or so doing a small section of the stunning Kepler Track to the Control Gates and then another 90 minutes or so of the much more boring track around the lake back to town.
Other options include walking up the mountain and a return boat back, or a longer walk down to the track head at Rainbow Reach with a bus pick up back to town - pretty much any option they are happy to accommodate.
Others on board just turned up and paid, and at the other end, some campers flagged the driver down and he turned the boat back to pick them up.
An easy, scenic way to start a great walk, or just enjoy part of this wonderful scenery.
