About Float My Boat
Float My Boat is a kayak rental business operating on Auckland's beautiful North Shore, owned and operated by Vicki Corless and launched in the Spring of 2009.
Float My Boat's aim is to hire kayaks to tourists and locals on the North Shore who would like to experience one of New Zealand's favourite water sports whilst taking in the views of the East Coast Bays from the water.
Kayaks can be rented on an hourly or daily basis and every rental includes a kayak, a paddle, a life jacket (pdf) and notes including tips on good paddle technique, safety at sea and what to do in an emergency.
Float My Boat's kayaks are plastic sit-on-top Frenzys and SeaCats. They are slower than fiberglass kayaks but easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for recreational and site-seeing paddles.
With a wealth of beautiful bays and inland bodies of water, Auckland's North Shore is ideal for scenic meanders, picnic-paddles, a break in the routine of a gym workout or beginners wanting to test the waters before cashing out on a sport they may not enjoy.

Key points
High Tide was at 09:40am. After high tide, the water flows out to the ocean. So if you start your paddle from Puhoi just after high tide the water will make it much easier to paddle with the current towards Wenderholm. I’d recommend allowing 2 hours for that one way trip.
Alternatively, start the paddle an hour or 2 prior to high tide and paddle from Wenderholm to Puhoi, explore the historical village, have a meal and once the tide has turned you could paddle out again. It’s an awesome village to explore.
There are sections of the river that cannot be paddled on when the it’s low tide. It’s is possible to paddle up the river when the current is flowing out but it is much more difficult. You do not want to be paddle far up the river more than 4 hours either side of high tide as the water level gets very low and you will risk getting stuck in the mud.
