Very disappointed to see the owners running this store with no face coverings during the Covid pandemic.
We also could not locate the contact tracing register to sign our names in, which was very concerning.
A lot of customers also didn't wear masks, which by law should be enforced by the store.
I have also written a formal letter to Foodstuffs-SI Limited to bring these concerns to their attentions.
Stewart Island should be very easy to keep Covid-free, but with business owners being this reckless, it will spoil it for the whole community.

Several staff are not wearing masks and will become super-spreaders probably responsible for many Stewart Islanders and visitors contracting Covid. This is inconsiderate and selfish. Avoid this shop if you can. Other shops in Stewart Island are being far more responsible.

Stock mainly comes in from mainland .
Prices reflect distance .
Good service 7 days aweek. Hard to miss with great views and a table outside.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well stocked mini supermarket. They seem to have everything that we were looking for plus things we probably didn’t need. Manage to stock up on food for our entire visit which means we didn’t really need to bring any food across on the ferry like we did. Prices were surprisingly reasonable for a remote island.

No staff wearing masks and staff wandering around coughing and wiping their snotty noses on their hands as they stock the shelves/serve customers.
Bring what you need when visiting as it’s the only supermarket. There is also a restaurant across the road which is much better with outdoor seating and breakfast/lunch/dinner etc.
Avoid if you don’t want to end up with covid stranded/isolating on Rakiura.
NOTE: later discovered article on stuff about this shop titled
“Stewart Island Four Square actively seeking unvaccinated staff”. Says it all really.
