β β β β β We went to dine in at their restaurant. W e ordered food and had to wait 45 mins and yet it end up not getting served. Too busy is not a good excuse. I ordered first among the others and seems they have forgotten about our order so i had to follow up. I followed up couple of times. Terrible experience. Wonβt ever go back.

β β β β β Great place for a holiday. Old style hotel, with showers and toilets, separate from the bedrooms. Spotless accommodation, with good beds. Communal tv lounge with tea and coffee making facilities. Good place for a couple of days stay.

β β β β β Immaculate room, excellent shower.
Food average, but very pricey. My salmon pizza was burnt. I rated it worst salmon pizza I have had.
But I could see that a lot of the food was very high quality.
It is a very popular place.

β β β β β Great location, friendly staff, wholesome atmosphere. Quick word of warning that the meals at the restaurant are 90% vegetables and 10% meat, but very tasty all the same. Would visit again.

β β β β β Fantastic stay at the South Sea Hotel. Room was large and had a bonus access out to the balcony which was a stunning spot to capture the sunrise. Meals in both the pub and restaurant were delicious and generous in size. Friendly staff who were very accommodating to any needs/requests. Highly recommend the South Sea Hotel.

β β β β β Right at the harbour side this hotel can't be missed. Used by locals and tourist it has the best selection of foods on the menu, needless to say most of the menu is fish. I had the seafood chowder which comes in half or full portion, half was enough for me. Blue cod and chips were probably alittle small in portions but tasty enough. Good place to wait for the ferry to come in and have a beer. Don't forget the IPA. Staff are friendly and helpful and certainly very busy.

β β β β β Here over New Years and loved the atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff. Food ordered was received in <10 minutes and was delicious. Great that the hotel gives you the option to store a bag when away tramping on the Rakiura Track. Utilised this with no issues whatsoever, very handy. A++++

β β β β β I visited Stewart Island with 4 other friends over Christmas. Originally, we were going to do the Great Walk, but we cancelled due to the beg bugs issue, so we actually made a booking to stay with South Sea very late. We got separated into 3 different rooms - the 2 bigger rooms were fine, but the single room was very small and basic. All of the rooms were very clean though.
The food was above average. There wasn't a great selection, but the chef and the staff made a great effort to accommodate our dietary needs. And that is what made South Sea special! All of the staff were so friendly and helpful.
Our trip to Stewart Island was very memorable. Thanks South Sea for hosting us.
