★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were camping at 5km away at Kauri Coast Top 10 when on 31 December we found our Volvo had lost all it's power steering fluid. Spoke with the friendly gentleman at Kaihu Motors and he said if we get the car there he will have a look as he does not close over the holidays. The next day he let me know the car is ready for pick-up. He was almost apologetic that it was $85 to tighten the hose that came loose, but I know what is required to get to the hose on a European car and he did it at short notice on New Year's Day!
We did not talk much, but I see he has a fire engine on site and can only assume he is also the local fire fighter. He certainly came across as the kind of person that would help people wherever he can.
The workshop is at a Gas petrol station and dairy, which also has friendly staff you do not find in the city. Next time we camp at Kauri Coast we will certainly drop in and support this business.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wen thers no other service station for 30kms either way Gas Kaihu does great even their petrol price is better than Dargaville...its shop full of grocery items & more.....the coffees pretty good too....
