β β β β β This place is AWESOME! Iv stayed a few times now. Cruisy staff, really amazing views, cheap if you want a room or ridiculously cheap if you want a tent or powered site, pet friendly, perfect showers, no traffic noise, pool table, table tennis table, more than one kitchen, and even a free tour at night on an off track adventure to a secret and mind blowing glowworm display. Definitely the best place to stay in Hoki.

β β β β β Great place to stay. It used to be a prison and a hospital before and they have preserved the place with a touch of the magic of the old times.
You can come with your tent from 15 NZD, van or stay in one of the great rooms. Very clean, full equipment kitchens, and nice staff. It is a must do if you come to the charming Hokitika.

β β β β β Incredible stay, staff are just beautiful and welcoming. Amazing to stay in such a rich piece of history with so much sadness that use to be here but yet feel so much at peace at our stay. It's warm, clean, tidy and so cheap. Not the Ritz but in its own unique way its 100 times better. Definitely coming back

β β β β β Purely random that I called in. Found it an experience to behold. A step back in time and looking through the history, found it very sobering. If you're traveling the West Coast and have an open mind, want to try something different along with a priceless view then here is a must.

β β β β β I lived on the West Coast as a teenager and Mum and I use to often come to Hokitika for the day. One of those days we drove up to the old Seaview Hospital area, it had a sort of derelict ex hospital feel. Years later in 2021 I live in another place, I was on a road trip up from Wanaka to Westport and we stopped and stayed at the Seaview Lodge and Backpackers in a tent outside. We went in the building for showers and to use the kitchen. The building had a kind of spooky feel with long meandering hallways, vintage furniture and many rooms. It was tidy and kept clean for what it is, there is plenty of space for tents and caravans, amazing views over Hokitika and towards the sea and sunset. A worthy and unusual place to stay with a strange history.

β β β β β Amazing spot to stay with so much history. All the staff are so down to earth and you are so relaxed. I will be staying here when up this way again.The views are looking down on the town and the sea with its own track down to the glow worms. My new secret spot.
