β β β β β Halswell Lodge is not as good as it once was, which is a shame. Reception was unmanned .
My room in the Lodge has plunger coffee but no plunger to make it.
And the wifi at my end of the Lodge is not working.

β β β β β Let me save you from the experience that we had. The clue was at the door of reception. Absolutely disgusting and dirty reception. Yelled at as we walked to accomodation by group of drunk people staying in the room two away from our unit. Our unit, no.30 everything was flilthy. The curtains are all broken in every room, a big melted hole in the duvet, broken loose tiles in the kitchen, grime and dust layering every surface, broken bath, kicked in heater. When I rung the receptionist to say we will not be staying here she seemed surprised. Walked all over town with our heavy packs following the receptionist to another hotel they run. The aura. This was marginally better. But would not recommend this place either. DIRTY. No refund offered but another free night of accommodation was offered to us. But hell no! Have been in touch with booking.com who I booked through and they have organised a $17. refund. Better than nothing but still feeling completely ripped off as I paid $170 for this experience.

β β β β β The bathroom floor was rotten, so much so that my partners foot went through it.
Mould around the shower.
Cold damp room.
We did not stay there as we complained to reception about the issues with the bathroom. We were assured that the owner would process a refund and they now will not get back in contact with us.
Despite multiple phone calls, they simply say the owner will be in touch and they never are.
Really awful people to deal with that say rude things over the phone.
I would not recommend to anyone to stay here.

β β β β β The moment we stepped it was a true off, run by dodgy people with very low life attitude. They refused to give us the room we booked and paid and kept on denying all the proof we sent. I urge please do not book this hotel at all. Can your trip to wellington if possible but do not ever stay at this place. The horrible people ,room stinks, bathrooms worn out,carpet has bugs.

Highly recommend Donβt go there with your family.
Really Unprofessional, untrained, rude staff, cheated, keep calling and waiting for my refund.
My family booked room to stay 1 night (2 small kids) Saturday 8th Jan 2022.
Got room 28 unfortunately this whole motel taken by bums and homeless people.
Room 26 lady start abusing us with no reason. Immediately informed staff and they said we have only one room we canβt give you another room. If you want to leave will give you refund.
Still waiting till today 11 Jan 2022.
Keep calling, sent mail but no response from motel staff.

β β β β β Staff is very rude very unprofessional last night i book a room for my husband and they havent left a key for him they left him un attended more then an hour in the cold he did try to ring at reception and on call reception lady she hang out and on call lady was not willing to help him either they both are usless specifically at the reception. And later on when we insist the oncall lady and she find out we are punjabi like her that time she help my husband out .they are awful the service was not good ,bathroom was very untidy smelly room i never face problems like this before.

β β β β β What can I say this place makes it look like it's going to be wonderful but a disastrous way it ended.
We got the King Size Room with Spa Bath and when we arrived it was picture perfect. We were away for a conference and also celebrating our wedding anniversary. So it looked picture perfect.
But the hidden gems weren't treasure the dust was intense all along the skirting of the room, the bed was two single bases fused together with a long mattress on top. Let's just say sleeping that night ended up very awkward with the bases split in half.
The bathroom though oh it was beautiful but I would not recommend getting out of the spa bath without layering some towels down the tiling gets very slippery and I ended up having an accident and slipping and falling.
We let the front desk know of our time but they did not want to hear about it. We had also paid a bond which is requested for the bigger rooms it took two and a half weeks after our visit to be returned.
All on all I wouldn't recommend.
