About Hillsborough Car Museum, Luge and Mini Golf (putt putt)

Unique to New Zealand and only a 10 minute drive from the centre of New Plymouth situated in the heart of the Hillsborough district.

Hillsborough Holden Museum is a stunning new facility purposely built for the preservation and display of a private collection of Australian Holden cars and memorabilia. The cars range from well preserved early models, meticulously restored models through to late model new cars.

The Museum has evolved from a lifetime of passion and loyalty of Steve Fabish for the Holden brand of cars. Steve’s love for the Holden cars originated with his first Holden purchase being a 1972 HQ Ute.

Twenty years ago, Steve commenced his first car restoration which was an HX GTS 1977 Monaro four door, this progressed to a second restoration and the collection expanded from there.

Since this time Steve and his wife Joy have compiled a spectacular collection of Holden cars and Memorabilia for display in their museum.

They now welcome automotive enthusiasts to enjoy and appreciate the collection of classic and modern cars.

The Man Behind the venture

The Museum owners are Steve and Joy Fabish.  Steve grew up in the nearby small town of Inglewood. He acquired his mechanical skills from his father Des who was a Mechanic himself, and determined to teach his sons the basics of the trade.

Steve learned the trade of building however and established his own successful building business which he has owned for 40 years. He is an avid admirer and supporter of the Holden car and personally loves the new late model cars.

As their collection of cars and Memorabilia expanded, Steve and Joy decided to build a suitable place to accommodate it all.  The museum was brought to life so other people can enjoy their passion and love for Holden cars.

Did the mini putt thing 2 adults, 3 kidz, $20 per person. Way over priced for kids, they Lost intrest pretty quickly. Didn't bother with luge or museum. Should have worn a suit...My personal feelings..

I am not a car enthusiast but I like Museums so I went along. I was surprised to enjoy the visit. Seeing the cars that we no longer see on the roads made me nostalgic for times past. I also enjoyed looking at the memorabilia - the books, the signs, the photos of car racing personalities. The signage with each car is good. Manequins beside the cars display clothing and accessories of the time. No photos are allowed in the Museum for security. On the same site is a spectacular mini-golf course with separate $15 entry fee. The views across the area are great. A cafe with the Holden theme enables one to sit and consolidate what one has seen. A cartoon helicopter ride will entice the kiddies.

Excellent place even in its infancy, the luge ride and the organized team was a great first experience for many with simple and challenging for young and old as you gained more confidence each time you went down( for all ages). Mini putt, was one of the best and challenging greens I have ever been on. Challenging for every 16 holes but thoroughly enjoyed. The best part for our whole family group was the cafe after all the fun was had. The was also a chess and draughtboard to challenge each other if you were beaten in the other activities, gosh even the train ride was fun for old and new people, only in Taranaki, well done to the creator of this amazing place. May your vision grow.

Luge a bit short but I hear it's gonna be bigger. Still a blast... Hardest ever mini golf. Loved it . Didn't go into museum. We'll be back. Even the cars were social distancing ????

New and looks great. Just insanely short luge track. Perhaps meant for younger ones? Was $30 for 3 rides. Very brief thrill. Waiting for the cute Thomas the Tank Engine ride up the hill was probably more of a highlight.
