★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had an HRV installed 2 weeks ago & have noticed that the house is drier & warmer already. We got the Heat Transfer as an add on so the heat from the fireplace is now felt in the bedrooms & now the whole house feels warm. Now we don't have to use heaters in the bedrooms anymore. There is also 'less' condensation on the windows. And on warmer days when there is hotter air in the roof, we dont have to light the fire until the temperature cools down because the hot air from the roof is brought down into the house to keep it warm. The benefits are that we are burning less firewood and we no longer have to use our dehumidifier because the house is drier. That's saving energy with firewood & electricity.
The handy features are a night time mode on the control pad so it does not light up the hallway between 9pm- 7am. There is a burnt toast mode which is set for 1 hour or until you turn it off. But in all honesty its quicker to open the doors to let the smell out & the fresh air in.
We did not purchase the Summer Kit or the Bathroom Vortex which are other add ons. But we may look into that in the future because our bathroom has no expel air & at this stage its too early to comment on the HVac benefits in the summertime.
We see that HRV also install Air Conditioning. But we already had 1 in the living room. It might be a good idea to purchase a second one for the bedroom. Will see next summer if it is necessary or not.
I recommend HRV. Its a good investment although it is priced higher than its counterparts (Smart Vent/DVS ect) but its better quality. And they service it & change the filter for you every 2 years.
