At edge of town. Near cafes, takeout and petrol station. Simple joys ☺

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spectacular views, well maintained tracks. A gorgeous spot. The weather held out for us and we were able to enjoy the birdlife in the bush and romp on the sand. The water was freezing! To be expected in Winter. I look forward to returning in warmer weather.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We ended at the retirement village by accident (because half the trail/loop was closed...) and had to return to the carpark. Lots of mosquitoes on our way, got stung multiple times. And the traffic was horrible, took us forever to exit the carpark. Not the best experience. We went to the Cement Works in stead, loved that place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stopped by looking for a place to walk around and take photos - Kowhai Park is stunning, even in the rain! There's something about the trees here and the old kiln in amongst them that's just a sight to marvel and wonder at and get the creativity buzzing... 4 stars only because one of the tracks was closed! Would recommend if you're looking for a quick hike in the area :)
