★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good campsite, two toilets, not flush one though, good view, peaceful and quiet. The lupine is blooming along the road, very beautiful. From the highway to campsite, the road is grave but only 2km easy for all kinds of cars. Recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you want peace and quiet, enjoy listening to bird life and do a bit of fly fishing this little lake has it all, thanks To the Wataki District Council for making this wonderful place available to camp with self contained vehicles.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s okay! Small pond with lots of waterfowl! No fires! 2 pit toilets! Off the beaten path if you want seclusion!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quiet and calm lake. Gravel road access for 2 to 3km. Continue drive in when google map says you’ve reached your destination and you will see the access to the campsite on your right. 2 vault toilet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The worst road we have driven in New Zealand. If you do not know an alternative route, do not follow the Canal Road one on Google Maps. We were so worried about our car. No informative sign on the way other than the one saying you should drive at your own risk! Do not count on this free site especially if you will arrive at night.
UPDATE: Tried an alternative route shown on Google Maps. At some point, we saw a line closing the road. It was barely visible during the day. So be careful if you will drive at night. Cannot tell whether the site was closed but we did not risk driving until the end.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice site. You the second entrance for safer surface. We cycled into Twizel but the roadway was very corrugated so came back on the other side of the canal. Much better for comfort. These canals are great civil engineering projects. Would have given it a five if the grader had smoothed the roadway

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful place! There are basic toilets there but we didn't need them with our self contained caravan. Accessible when towing as well, although its on gravel road. We have been there in autumn and the place was so beautifully colorful! Went fishing to the canal which is just walking distance. Drove for a one day trip to Mt Cook Village from here too and then came back. Had mobile connection there. We had a lovely stay!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is my new favourite campsite. Lots of space, stunning scenery, quiet because it's away from the main highway, and with very good road access. Having a fully SC campervan I can't comment on the toilets. I imagine it's very popular during the holiday season, but in early May there were just a few friendly campers further around the lake. It was worth seeking out the spot with the best view because who doesn't want to wake up and watch the sun rising on on Mount Cook?
