Scenic campsite overlooking small lake in close proximity for fishing on the canal (requires license). Free for all vehicles including non-Self contained vehicles, tents & bivvys etc. Enjoy!

Really nice lake, we pulled up here as we found out that it was a freedom camping site. It is quite lovely place to pitch up and spend the night. I would say one night at the most as the amenities aren't the greatest the toilet isn't very well looked after and thus isn't very forgiving. You can set up a small fire here which we done there pkent of wood around if you go for a walk and some nice picnic tables to eat at. I would recommend to take some bags with you fir rubbish cause I can't remember there being many bins around

We stayed here in January 2018 for two nights. Since it is a free campsite run by DOC I suggest getting there early enough to secure yourself a good spot if you have a tent. If you're in a van anywhere is fine! The toilets are basic, but there was toilet paper and they were clean enough. The view is fairly scenic. The trees around the water help to create small "private" camping areas for you to enjoy if you have a tent. There are picnic tables to grill or eat, but it would be nice if there were more. Probably one of the best free campsites we stayed at with easy access to Hooker Valley Track and Lake Tekapo/Pukaki.

Nice cozy place to stay, if you’re not self contained. Toilets available

Great camping site, camping ground is big and equipped with toilets. It's also a good fishing spot!

Wonderful free site with toilets and a small picnic area - stayed here in the winter when there was a massive storm closer in towards the mountains, would’ve been miserable at the Mt. Cook campsite. Within the dark sky reserve, so stars are beautiful at night. Loved waking up to the view of the small lake and the nearby mountains. Need to go slow on the gravel road, but it was in pretty good condition when we were there.

Almost empty while we were here. Fantastic free site with toilets. No water so bring your own. The lake is really clear and you can see fish sometimes. The access road at the date of posting this review is very corrugated but nothing unsafe. The second entrance is a lot less bumpy so worth keeping in mind! **Max 4 night stay in any calendar month**
