★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I made a mistake and got an infringement. For non-self contained vehicles, there's only 4 car parks. I missed that dark fine print saying that and found myself with a $200 ticket. It was given to me at 5:30 on Anzac morning.
Otherwise the location is lovely and the facilities are decent. Worth a look.
Edit: I contested the ticket, and they ignored it. Sigh... Downgraded to one star for visibility.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really well thought out freedom camp. Public toilets, shower and a place to wash dishes. Plenty of spaces for s/c and marked spaces for non s/c vehicles. Lovely walks and cycle tracks.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely peaceful sites with lakeviews and access to toilets, walks, cycleways, lake, beaches and good cellphone coverage. On a Saturday night there were some hoons about but they stuck to the main drag and left us FC's in peace. Limited to 3 nights in 30 days but it's still a good option for day use.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful Freedom Camping spot for SC & NSC Campers. Great views over lake. Busy area on a good day with Boaters etc. But quiet overnight when I was there. Toilets.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Turned up to freedom camp in the dark last night. Woke up to a $200 ticket even though the sign says freedom camping. When we turned up there was many other vans in the same situation in the dark that had set up for the night also. After reading the note they added to the ticket I walked over to one of the lightly painted parks that there is no way of seeing in the dark to see that the red van in the pictures had a ticket and they were parked in an apparent designated park. Come on guys whats going on. We will definitely be fighting this ticket

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely little spot by the lake, toilets cleaned daily, very relaxed atmosphere and lovely and lovely quiet at night. There is also easy access to the coastal walkway which is humming with walkers and bikers, from the sea you get great views of Mt Taranaki

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great freedom camping spot for both self contained and non self contained vehicles.
There is easy access to the toilet facilities near by.
The beach and coastal walkway is an easy 10/15 minute walk away - on the other site of lake Rotomanu.
Plenty of spaces to park, so there should aways be room for you to park up.
