★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best to go at dusk. Short windy stretch of gravel road leading up to the caves a bit slippery and better suited for 4WD. Be prepared to get wet, bring gumboots and change of clothes. It's a short 5 mins walk down, TURN RIGHT (there are no signs) when you reach the creek at the bottom, another 50m and you will reach the glowworm cave. Cave itself is only 50m long but still magical. Look UP at the ceiling to find glowworms.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ~10 minute walk up a stream. Not a smooth path
Cave was beautiful. Like a starry LED night
Walking further led to another cave blocked with logs

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This cave is an amazing hidden gem, worth the drive and once there it is quite easy to get down the path and walk a couple of mins upstream to the cave. Sturdy shoes required, and if you go at night be prepared and do not forget a headtorch!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A bit of a long trip to do if you don't see the glowing worms.
But its fun to explore and walk in the bush and river. Kids loved the muddy puddles.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definately go after Sunset. It's the most kept secret place in NZ. I was there alone and it was the most magical rewarding moment when I walked into the cave. Accept to walk in the cold creek. You won't care anymore once you are inside the cave!!! It's a 250m walk. So stunning! 6 out of 5 stars!!! ✓

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A short walk. No wheelchair access. Need to be sure on your feet and be prepared to either wear gumboots or get wet feet. Well worth the wet feet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely magical!! Only a short walk to the cave and is definitely worth a good look. Would recommend gumboots or water proof shoes though as you need to walk through the stream numerous times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do NOT try to keep your feet dry/clean. Once you accept you're going to be walking in water, the track up makes more sense. I actually recommend avoiding the track for a lot of it: there are so many trees down, and the track is so muddy, that the stream bed is safer to walk on. For the walk down from the car park to the stream you need more than fitness: you must have excellent flexibility and no joint issues with ankles, knees, or hips. No glow worms to see during the day, but the cave and its setting is gorgeous and worth the walk. Stop at Apiti tavern afterwards for amazing food.
