★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A short bush walk (loop) from the car park, which is just a few minutes drive from the bridge across the Gorge. Over the bridge u can see the Gorge up n down stream; with some wind turbines over the mountains. Note the bridge is very narrow n allows one way traffic any one time. Pedestrians are allowed to walk over there but u are warned it can be extremely windy when u are on it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The old state highway gorge Road is officially closed to the public.... BUT....
the chain fence is pulled back and many cyclist enjoy this ride through the gorge enjoying wonderful Bush and the manawatu River below as you ride along lovely sealed road and no vehicular traffic ...
However.. One must be vigilant of rock falls at any time there are 3 major rock falls covering the entirity of the Old Road (hence the permanent road closure) but cyclist have made tracks through them. A beautiful 7 km ride with a lovely camping ground at the Napier/Woodville end along side the Manawatu River, to spend a night at before continuing on to the Wairarapa or to Napier refreshed in morning.
